Legal system

Cyprus has a legal system rooted in English common law, influenced by its history as a British colony. It also incorporates elements of continental European legal principles.
The legal framework includes the Constitution, laws enacted by the House of Representatives, and the principles of common law and equity.

Court system

There are three levels of courts in Cyprus. The Supreme Court (Anótato Dikastírio) and Supreme Constitutional Court (Anótato Syntagmatikó Dikastírio) as third instance, or as provided for by the Constitution and relevant legislation, and the Court of Appeal (Efeteío) -second instance.
